about the illustrators Amadeo Bachar (Catching the Cosmic Waves) was born in Waddell Valley north of Santa Cruz. He spent his youth moving up and down the northern California coast until finally settling back down in the Santa Cruz area. He got a B.S. in marine biology from UC Santa Cruz and proceeded into the Science Illustration program a year later. After working harder than he has ever in his life he accepted an internship in the National Geographic art department. After the internship he plans to work as a freelance illustrator from home in Santa Cruz.

Tim Gunther (Amazing Feet of
Engineering) Eliza K. Jewett (Civilized Outrage) received her B.A. in biology from Harvard University. She has since worked in varied positions, including Art Director of an educational CD-ROM about conservation and biodiversity, marketing copywriter and editor, and plant ecology researcher. This summer she did an internship in design at Scientific American magazine. In the fall she will go to the Bishop Museum in Hawaii to illustrate guides to local plants. She plans to work in the future as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer, and to write and illustrate her own books.
Alison Kendall (Buy a Plant, Kill a Forest?) Juna Kurihara (Energy Saviour? Or Climate Disaster?) is known as a rodent and leporid lover among her friends. Her interest in pursuing science illustration grew strongly during her undergraduate years, through her research on Pine moth in the zoology lab, and her work experience at the National Science Museum in Tokyo. After receiving her bachelor's degree in Agriculture from the University of Tokyo, she flew across the Pacific Ocean for her first education in art from the University of Rhode Island. Following her completion of the Science Illustration program, during the summer, she is working at the San Diego Supercomputer Center creating 3D animations.
